Update July 2008

Hello visitors:

Just an update; I am currently putting together information and planning on contacting federal legislators about getting strict laws on the books regarding Certified Pre Owned vehicles making it hard if not impossible for dealerships like Autobarn VW in Illinois from selling vehicles without their required service histories, documentation of inspection, fraudulent credit applications to obtain sales, and many other issues I faced at this dealership in Evanston, IL.

If the steps I take do not end helping to end this dishonest behavior, all I can say is that the consumers who deal with Autobarn Volkswagen and Richard Fisher, should have an attorney present when purchasing from their dealerships.

If I can help any consumer I am more than willing to do so. I don't want to see more people get ripped off.

Issues to watch for:

1. Does your certified Volkswagen have ALL 3 KEYS?
2. Is all of the paperwork included? Do you have the inspection in hand? Service history?
3. Is Autobarn charging you the standard $450-500 for CERTIFICATION. IT IS NOT more than this. If you pay more than $500, you may be getting ripped off and should contact Volkswagen of America immediately.
4. Has your credit application been submitted with legit information? Did Autobarn falsify any of it? Your rent? Your mortgage payment? Your income?
5. Does the car have the owner's manual? Floor mats?
6. Have all the NON OEM parts been disclosed to you?
7. Ownership history; DID THIS CAR COME FROM AUCTION? (BEWARE!)
Many auction vehicles have checkered histories.

Check VW.com and look over the certified pre owned section of the site. MAKE SURE THE DEALERSHIP IS DOING EVERYTHING THAT IS STATED ON THAT WEBSITE OR YOU MAY BE GETTING RIPPED OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, contact me with any questions or concerns BEFORE PURCHASING A CERTIFIED VOLKSWAGEN FROM ANY DEALERSHIP.

I'd hate to see you end up sorry like I was.

A car is your 2nd or 1st most expensive purchase. DO IT RIGHT.

Take care!
